Betsayda Machado is a Venezuelan singer, often called "The Voice of Venezuela," known for bringing attention to the Afro-Venezuelan "Tambor" music genre. Born in El Clavo, Barlovento, a community with a rich Afro-Venezuelan tradition, she has been recognized as a promising voice since a young age. She performs with La Parranda El Clavo, a percussion and voice ensemble of close friends and family from her hometown, who have been playing together for nearly 30 years. Betsayda Machado and La Parranda El Clavo have gained international recognition, performing in numerous cities worldwide and appearing on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts. Their music is deeply rooted in the African traditions of Venezuela, with vibrant harmonies and danceable polyrhythms. She credits her influences to other great Afro-descendant divas like Celia Cruz, Totó La Momposina, and Cesaria Evora, as well as her father, Pedro Machado.
